All Winter long as the ground has soaked with rain, the clouds seemingly relentless in their downpour, I have waited. I have waited for the first hint of sun, of warmth to reach the underbelly of the forest, to know it was time for Spring's first camp. This week there have been hints of it's arrival with temperatures nearing the 70's. Sunshine, like a playful temptress.
A few months ago, Sierra Designs sent me their Backcountry Bed- "Winner of a 2014 Editor's Choice Award from both Backpacker and Climbing Magazines, this lightweight bag is free from extraneous hardware, and allows you to sleep like you would in a normal bed." I used it for a week in the Arkansas mountains and was hooked- not literally; Remember theres no hardware on the thing. The self-sealing foot vent that stays draft-free when it isn't being used, genius for my indecisive sleeping habits. "Sleeping in the wild, like I do at home"- I'd have to say I'd prefer it over a regular bed in a house any day. Come on Mr. Sunshine.
